Holly
The lation name for Holly is Ilex aquifolium. The Holly is apart of the Aquifoliaceae family and can grow up to 15m and live 300 years. The leaves are dark green, glossy and oval, when they are younger they have spiky leaves, and they get smoother as they get older.
The male and female flowers occur on different trees (dioecious) The flowers are white with four petals, blooming between spring and the beginning of summer.
Once pollinated, the flowers turn to fruit, which look like scarlet berries, remaining on the tree throughout the winter. Their dense coverage provides nesting opportunities for birds and hibernation spots from the dry leaf litter, also, their flowers provide nectar for bees.
